About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to inspire and empower families to travel so they can grow as individuals, grow closer to the communities they visit, and most importantly, grow together.

We know that traveling with kids isn’t always easy, sometimes it can be downright hard, but we also know it is unquestionably worth all the effort.

So our goal with The Traveling Families Club is to create an online community where families that love to travel can come to trade stories, tips, and advice to make traveling with your kids easy, enjoyable, and impactful

What We Believe

We believe that traveling is about far more than just getting away from the daily grind.

We believe that the world is the greatest classroom, and the greatest lessons our kids can learn will come from traveling the world, and meeting the people who inhabit it.

We believe that travel has the capacity to change your life, and we want to share that with everyone who will listen.

Why We Blog

We created a blog because our experiences traveling have played a huge role in shaping our lives and the people we are today.

We created a blog because we want to connect with other like-minded families that love to travel.

We created a blog because we want to inspire and be inspired by others who share our passions.

What Type Of Travel Do We Prefer?

We’ve tried it all.  Our trips have taken us from remote campsites all over the US, to quaint Air BnBs in Cartagena Colombia, to luxury resorts in Mexico.

Our preference however is to stay a bit off the beaten track. Hotels and resorts are few and far in between. Rather, we prefer to camp, stay in Air BnB’s, or find small hotels or bed and breakfasts.

We equally enjoy a secluded hike in the mountains, visiting museums and historical sites, and relaxing on the beach and building sand castles.

We believe that every destination has something unique to offer and that the lessons you learn are not determined by the places you visit, but rather by the perspective you bring with you.

Who We Are

We are Dylan (Dad), Amber (Mom), Auburn, and Arlo.  We are from a small(ish) town along the Central California coast. We love to travel, and, as you can see from above, believe that travel is about much more than just getting away, or taking a break. We believe that travel is a process of personal growth, that teaches you about the world, about others, and mostly about yourself.

Dylan and Amber both traveled extensively prior to meeting. Combined we have been to over 55 countries across 6 continents (haven’t made it to Antarctica yet!).

For Dylan, the ‘travel bug’ really dug its teeth in when he was on a two-month trip through East Africa the summer after graduating high school. After his experiences on this trip, he spent the better part of the next seven years working odd jobs and traveling as much as he possibly could. Through his travels, he developed an interest in the concept of culture and eventually decided to go back to school. He ended up earning a degree in Anthropology from UC Berkeley in 2012.

For Amber, it was a trip to Australia as a 19-year-old that got her hooked on travel. Similarly, she worked odd jobs in her early 20s to fund her travel, before deciding to become an Air Traffic Controller. This career gave her the funds, and enough vacation time, to continue to feed her passion and travel the world.

For both Dylan and Amber, regardless of what else was going on in their lives, they both have continued to travel as much as they can.

In addition to traveling abroad, we love to camp and experience nature. We have camped all over the western US and throughout many of the countries, we have visited.

Now that we have two amazing kids, we want to continue to travel and share our passion for exploration with them.

Our goal as a family is to ultimately visit every state in the USA and for each family member to have traveled to 1 country for each year of their life (3 countries by 3 years old, 4 countries by 4 years old, etc…).
